This is Part 1 of the series, Life in the Building Trades.

In 1966 I graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School and went away to Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech, where I had three small scholarships and a dream to become an architect. Two years later that dream was over and a new life was unfolding faster than I could keep up.
