Re-lamping a cable light

I have been an active member of the IBEW since 1968 and a proud member of Local 6, San Francisco, since 1996. My last employer was the Golden Gate Bridge Highway & Transportation District in San Francisco, CA.

  1. Thanks for following my blog, Allan. This Bay Area is amazing, isn’t it? We’ve lived here for about 38 years now, and it’s home. I’m a nurse case manager, and used to work for Union Labor Life Ins. in the City…we covered IBEW at that time. Small world.

  2. Oh, wow, I had no idea that was you in or taking those pictures! Amazing! (And terrifying!)

Funny — I took a motorcycle trip alone in Norway a couple of years ago. My first day of riding, I was on an unfamiliar bike, in an unfamiliar country, on narrow, treacherous roads, in heavy rain and fog. I finally got to my hotel, and it turned out I had to climb four steps up a ladder to get to a loft area where the bed was.

Narrow switchbacks in heavy fog? No problem. Four steps up a sturdy ladder? Took me 15 minutes, hyperventilating for most of that time.

No idea how you do it. :)

    • Hello Karen,

Touring Norway your way sounds like a lot of fun, Queasy Rider. I hope that the ladder in question had handrails for you to hold onto. It sounds to me like you are a committed “Groundling”, and that’s OK. That means more work for us “Uppity” types.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us and for following my blog,

    • Thank you, it is an honor to be a worker on this iconic bridge. I work rotating shifts and everyone of them is an opportunity to experience the grandeur and wonder of the Golden Gate.

Thanks for following my blog and taking the time to share your thoughts,
